There are so many new friends everyday that want to try rock painting for many different reasons. Some like to use rocks as their canvas and paint all sorts of subjects on it, they may gift them or sell them and they are usually kept inside.

On this page I will be discussing rock painting for Kindness Rocks. These are rocks that we create on and leave them in our community as abandonded art for others to find and enjoy. They are very easy to create but we need to consider a few things – The Elements.

The sun, rain and other elements can affect our rocks, everything I share I only do so after I have tested my method for 30 days left outside in extreme sun and water. The other thing to consider is that rocks do not react to product like a canvas or a journal does. The more product on a rock they become top heavy and will easily peel even if sealed. ( Sealer adds to the weight) So avoid too many products – Keep it simple.
Put all your effort into enjoying your creativity.

Let’s chat on where to start

The first question you may ask is what supplies do you need? My advice is when starting keep it simple! There is no need to complicate it and let lack of supplies get it your way.

1. ROCKS ~ You can buy them or find them as you are walking about. All you need to do to start is wash your rocks. Learn how HERE

Next you need to decide what colour you will use to decorate your rocks. There are so many choices but to start off your adventure I would start with Acrylic Paint or Acrylic Paint Pens.

How many varieties of paint and paint pens can there be… don’t be overwhelmed – a simple rule to stick to is use  Acrylic Paint  for both paint and the pens.
We have tested at great lengths acrylic paint pens and these are the ones that stand up to easy use & long lasting – WHICH PAINT PENS TO USE

To finish your rocks they need to be sealed. This is so they can last longer when you leave them outside.

Now you will hear alot of chinese whispers on a million different products to use and why. The biggest concern is if the paint smears. I shall share a secret that you should not keep to yourself… They will NOT smear if you use the right sealer for your paint and you seal the rock in the correct manner. And yes I have a video on how!

We spend 30 days testing our methods at the least –  some even longer before we share the outcome. We look at ease of use, does it smear the paint, how it lasts outside in the environment – sun & rain.
In this link (click here) I share our findings and why …
