The great thing about the Tooli-Art Pens that are suitable for rock painting is the great colour range. You can not go past the amazing colour range. But we careful which ones you choose, some of their pens are not suitable for Rock Painting.

They have variety packs from their classic Original colours, Earth & Skin tones and Metallic.

We have also designed two E-Books that are specially designed for the Tooli-Art pens . They are available further down the page.

Let’s chat Tooli-Art Pens on rocks ….

We are fans of all the Tooli-Art Pens – but this is a rock painting page and some of the Tooli-Art pen range are not suitable on rocks. It is always important to separate the brand name and the pen types. Some people buy a brand of pens as all they heard was the ‘brand’ in a recommendation. It is really important to know what ‘pen type’ within the brand is suitable for your needs. We share here the ones that work fabulously on ROCKS

The SKIN & EARTH colours consist of 36 paint pen markers on the fineliner size of 0.7m.  This set was specifically designed for painting faces, people, animals, nature, etc.

The set gives you a variety of  earth hues, tints, tones, and shades. The pens are easy to use and have a low sheen finish-they do need extra shaking to get the correct colour but worth the workout – Great price-Great product

24 paint pen markers consisting of two popular sizes – 3m & 0.7m

The 12 colors are highly pigmented paint giving you a fabulous opaque coverage  on light or dark surfaces.

The trick to using these are extreme shaking before you use so the silver metallic finish mixes evenly with the colour. Without a lot of shaking they will look silvery.

21 paint pen marker combo in Black & White.
12 extra-fine tips (6 black & 6 white)
9 medium tips (5 black & 4 white)

It is always a great idea to have spares in B&W. The extra fine tips are great and you can get some fine lines that will be permanent on your rock. The 3m tip … Mmmmm not great but workable. The 3m tips are quite hard and dry out very quickly – within the painting session.
It gets frustrating but I do have a handy hint to keep them hydrated as you paint. If you use them dry. the tip wears down. When the flow is on they are great. If you use the tip as it is drying out you get a streaky finish. For an even coverage keep the tip hydrated, dip for a minute in water.

These artist illustration pens have become popular for fine lines with Scrapbookers & Rock Painters.
They work ok on rocks but they are delicate pens and need EXTRA care when using as they are meant for paper.

Only use on completely dry paint not just surface dry, to keep the tips clean. Keep a nice LIGHT PRESSURE when using so they do not dig into the paint and clog the tip. They is a great economical set of micro pens .

36 Dual Tip Brush Pens
These are fantastic pens but just NOT suitable for rocks. They are great for your Journaling, Lettering, Drawing etc on PAPER.

These are waterbased pens with dye based inks. This means they can smear when sealed. More important is that they are not light resistant – they will fade on rocks. They are  only visible on white based rock due to their transparency.

Oh we would love to recommend these pens as we love the other pens – BUT – these pens are not great.

They have many flaws but the most important to rock painting is that they are not consistent – not from day to day and not consistent from pack to pack. They take forever to dry. They are difficult to seal and not worth the creative effort to use them. Anne has a review on the Glitter pens – HERE
