Easy Bunny on a small rock – Rock Painting Tutorial

This week I am going to work on small rocks and create some easy designs to create. These rocks are about 2.5cm or around an inch big . I want to describe the rock as it is not my usual rock type and I know many of you are having trouble with your rocks.
It is a hard rock – not porous – They are machine sliced so they are left with a shiny surface. There is NO coating on them but they are shiny & smooth.
These elements make it different when painting , The surface is non porous so the paint sits on top, no paint soaks in. so It takes way longer to dry. You can see in my colour picture around the flower how it is drying , bit by bit .
Shading is also different in how we approach as the paint sits on top. I used the exact same way in my process but the paint smooshes or slides around.
How everything works is all the elements together – I found the posca pens being more matte and heaps easier to use on these type rocks. This rock is done in Artistro & TooliArt pens, they have more of a sheen to the paint so sit more on top and take longer to dry.
Just some thoughts I had today I wanted to share – Become aware of your supplies and how each one performs. You just may have to slightly change your process when your supplies are different .

Use a black colour pen and outline  the image, Great pens for outlines are Posca 1m, !mr or the 0.7m size in Tooli-Art or Artistro.

And if you want to add a touch of highlight –  pop on a few dots and dashes of white paint .

Colour on your rock – I have just painted a nice even layer. You do not want to paint it to thick. The more layers on the rock the more chance it has of peeling off later as the water in the base evaporates. Click on the image below to find out how best to paint on rocks!

Shading makes all the difference to the end result. Adds depth to the Image.
