What do you do when your pen has a vomit ?
This has happened to many people for a variety of reason which I will outline some below, but I never let a pen vomit get in my way when creating ! I see them as a creative gift ? I turn it into my chosen image .
?This time I smooshed it across my rock and dripped on some drops of water ? this made tte vomit water down and bleed across my rock in a drippy manner . I just allowed it to flow where it wanted to .
?The pen is a Posca in colour kharki where it became more watery it looks yellow. It looks so cool ? when it dries out , I added my design on top as usual .
Why do pens vomit sometimes? There are many reasons and more than I mention
☀️ Heat- if your pens are in direct heat they do get quite runny and are known to vomit
☝?Storage- if you store paint pens tip down they are prone to flow out quickly
❎ Dirty nibs- if your tips are dirty causing a block then paint can ooze out the sides … clean your tips! If your paint is not flowing out the tip , dont keep pumping the pen to force it ! Clean the tips so the paint can flow out easily as it is designed to do.
Get a pet rock for your desk – before using your pen each painting session give them a squiggle on the rock to check they are flowing well for use.
A vomit WILL happen if you depress your nib . When you pump on the nib it opens up the safety valve in the pen and paint pours out – it is designed to do this . So if you keep pumping the pen up and down … paint will vomit out ??‍♀️
? So the shiny side of a pen vomit is that you used your pet rock to test your pen and the vomit is on that . Using your finger , dip in to the puddle picking it up and then smoosh it down on a clean rock . You can smoosh it around to create a smooth background . Or plonk it on the rock and add drops of water to create the look I did .

Colour on your rock – I have just painted a nice even layer. You do not want to paint it to thick. The more layers on the rock the more chance it has of peeling off later as the water in the base evaporates. Click on the image below to find out how best to paint on rocks!

Shading makes all the difference to the end result. Adds depth to the Image.
I use clean water and a size 2 or 4 filbert taklon paintbrush click on the below image to learn the technique – or head to YouTube to watch how I do the shading.
