These cute little otters came to me in my Facebook feed in the form of advertising for Kawaii stickers for sale.
We all get painting blocks sometimes…I’ve had one for a couple of days because I painted a rock I really loved and felt like I needed to do something equally special & I had too many ideas kicking around in my noggin (head for you non Aussies) I couldn’t pin any down…..so what do you do then???‍♀️
Stop being so hard on yourself, get out of your own way, trust that ideas will arrive, get on with other stuff, be in the moment, with eyes wide open, so you notice inspiration from anywhere…..like an advertisement in your FB feed…..or do some of our tutorials, like these little cuties! ??
One tip….when doing the outlines and facial features on this rock, my fine pens weren’t fine enough for my liking, no dramas, once done, I chipped away at the details with the fine colours to make the lines finer. Easy peasy!

Dedicating this one to

Anne Whitlock – Kriayts

…she adores Otters! ?

Can’t wait to see your otterly gorgeous Otters…..they’d look super cute with Christmas Hats! ?❤️
Ps. Kawaii translates as Cute in Japanese……their whole culture has become synonymous with Kawaii…and who’s the Kawaii Queen?….Hello Kitty of course…the girl who started it all! ?

Use a black colour pen and outline  the image, Great pens for outlines are Posca 1m, !mr or the 0.7m size in Tooli-Art or Artistro.

And if you want to add a touch of highlight –  pop on a few dots and dashes of white paint .

Colour on your rock – I have just painted a nice even layer. You do not want to paint it to thick. The more layers on the rock the more chance it has of peeling off later as the water in the base evaporates. Click on the image below to find out how best to paint on rocks!

Shading makes all the difference to the end result. Adds depth to the Image.
I use clean water and a size 2 or 4 filbert taklon paintbrush click on the below image to learn the technique – or head to YouTube to watch how I do the shading.
