Well it’s spikes not fur- a spiky echidna? The American version not the Aussie one ?? but the exact same technique…spikes… fur ! The rock is 50 mm in size with a 0 size fineline brush. Mouse is coming!
I get people requesting fur and how to do it and my biggest advice is –
Patience!
Fur requires layers and most people want to achieve the top layer quickly, before they have built up all the previous layers .
These types of rocks take time – this is a type of rock I have no patience – zero – so it’s not finished ?? you can see where I could balance in more colour. It does not matter if a cat or dog with fur you will use this technique

Below is the great step by Step Photo Tutorial as promised. It is always great to share ideas and ‘How To’ steps with you so we can all create even more Kindness Rocks in the world! We have taken this one step further and hope you will join us – We are contributing Financially to at risk women and children – You can help by clicking above on our online course, it costs $10 to join with ALL proceeds going to charity. You are amazing and thankyou for your contribution.

Start on the underneath layer and start in your darkest colour and lay a thin layer of strokes.

See in the left where mine get heavy? This is from not having enough paint on my brush, this made me push harder and the wider part of my brush was used giving a heavier line – lesson of patience Learnt?? Probably not ??‍♀️

Next layer of strokes in lightest colour

Keeps going on and on and on

I know I need to balance my colour more
But I’m calling it quits –
This is taking way too long for a tutorial rock and I’m bored outta my brain ????
Add some rosy cheeks, and highlights to the eyes, ears and nose.
Whiskers are also great!

I’m calling him done !

Draw the design on your rock.  Click on the image below to learn how to draw on Rocks

Colour on your rock – I have just painted a nice even layer. You do not want to paint it to thick. The more layers on the rock the more chance it has of peeling off later as the water in the base evaporates. Click on the image below to find out how best to paint on rocks!

Shading makes all the difference to the end result. Adds depth to the Image.
I use clean water and a size 2 or 4 filbert taklon paintbrush click on the below image to learn the technique – or head to YouTube to watch how I do the shading.

Next layer of strokes in medium colour

I continued on layering the
Two darker colours

The light colour is light reflection so you don’t need that all the way through – I just wanted some towards the back

Then you can add the highlight to face fur and spikes
